Tori Thompson

Tori is from Jacksonville, a city in northeast Florida. She was a part of the 3/2 Accelerated Management Program at Rollins College and majored in Business Management. Now, Tori is a student at the Crummer Graduate School of Business. In her free time, Tori enjoys spending time with her family, baking, gardening, and swimming.

Why Tori joined CrossLites:

From a young age my parents preached the importance of education and faith, and Crosslites brings those two values together. Education is an empowering tool and this organization provides an opportunity for more students to have access to the education they deserve. I am thrilled to be a member of the CrossLites team, an organization motivated by passion to help others.

Malyn Valenzuela

Malyn was born and raised in Vienna, Austria and has been all over the world before coming to Florida. Prior to starting business school at Crummer Graduate School of Business, she worked in the science field for close to 10 years. She worked in cancer research in both her PhD and post-doctoral labs investigating potential therapeutic targets in pancreatic and prostate cancers. She has a passion of “Bringing bench to bedside faster” so that patients can benefit from novel therapeutic agents quicker to give them better quality of life. She hopes to connect her passion with business after she completes her studies from Crummer. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her 2 kids and husband, baking and reading (any moment she can get!).

Why Malyn joined CrossLites.

What attracted me to CrossLites is the passion of helping and reaching out to those in need – not only monetary (scholarships), but mainly due to the value of encouraging and inspirational words. From past experience, I know how uplifting it is to read passages or quotes that give inspiration and help during difficult times. During my days as a PhD student, there were countless times when I felt like giving up – giving up trying to repeat failed experiments, giving up trying to resubmit rejected manuscripts, giving up when my project just does not seem to go anywhere. If it weren’t for the kind and encouraging words friends and family gave, I would not have had the strength to keep trying until I finally succeeded. I hope that the encouraging and inspirational words by Dr. Parker will help students, in every level of education and in whatever situation they find themselves in, to not give up and to help them see the light at the end of the tunnel.
